Event Details

Wigger directed by Omowale Akintunde (Omaha, NE).

'Wigger' is a spellbinding urban drama, which chronicles the life of a young, White, male (Brandon) who totally emulates and immerses himself in African American life and culture. Brandon is an aspiring R&B singer struggling to overcome the confines of a White racist, impoverished family headed by a neo-Nazi father who is absolutely appalled by his son's total identification with Black culture. Additionally, he is oft times reminded of his position of privilege by virtue of being White in a White, racist society despite his adamant efforts to transcend 'Whiteness', institutionalized racism, and find a place for himself in a world in which he rejects Whiteness but is not always fully embraced by African American culture.

Location: Marriott Hotel - Salon D.

Urban Mediamakers Association

The mission of the Urban Mediamakers  Association is to promote and support a strong diverse independent media arts community in metro-Atlanta emphasizing the work of African, Asian and Latin descent creatives. Our goal is to be a main player in the continuous movement to attain diversity in media by providing individuals with assistance with development, production, post-production, financing and distribution of independent media -- animation, film, music, print, television and video.

A 501(c)(3), tax exempt, not-for-profit, charitable organization, the Urban Mediamakers Association brings talented and aspiring creative individuals together. Guided by past wisdom and reflecting the new generation of mediamaking, we are dedicated to thinking out of the traditional box. We depend on powers beyond ourselves to provide opportunities and open doors in all facets of our lives.

Through our Young Urban Mediamakers (YUMs) program, we are partnering media professionals with youth ages 12-19 to encourage, inspire and educate them in all areas of media.
